Harpswell Design/Build

Completed winter 2009, a custom home designed and built by Benjamin & Co, based on a design brought to us by the client.

The lot was very small, sloping somewhat steeply from the road down to a small cove, with the house and garage filling the building envelope.

Structural Insulated Panels(SIPs) were used to enclose the timber frame, creating a tight, well-insulated building envelope.

To fit within the budget, a "hybrid" timberframe was built - meaning the timberframing was not used throughout in an effort to save money. The doghouse dormers and the mudroom were not timberframed, rather the SIP enclosure was utilized to form these elements.
